Before You Go

Here are some quick tips on things to know and prepare for before you hop off for the most exciting getaway. These tips would prove really helpful for people who are entirely new to experiencing African wildlife and can serve as a checklist for experienced adventure seekers.

Before you travel to Africa:

Passport Requirements:

  • Make sure you check your passport validity and visa requirements prior to your travel date.
  • In order to travel to Africa, you need to have two blank passport pages for each country that you will visit during travel for their departure and entry stamps. So make sure you have two pages for each country.
  • Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months after your travel date.

Health Vaccinations and Precautions:

  • Before traveling to Africa, you should make an appointment with your doctor in order to make sure that you have all the necessary vaccinations. It is recommended that you visit your doctor and make him aware of your travel in advance so he can keep your vaccinations updated and can suggest you on any additional vaccination that you may need.
  • For those who are traveling from certain countries that are declared yellow fever endemic regions, you would need to have a yellow fever vaccine. A proof for this vaccination is essential and you will be required to show it upon arrival in Tanzania. It is necessary to get this certificate 10 days prior to your travel.
  • An anti-malaria may be recommended by your doctor in order to avoid risk of malaria.
  • In a wildlife safari, you will be spending a lot of time surrounded by animals. Although the chances are very low of being bitten by any of those animals but your doctor may recommend a rabies vaccination. Remember that rabies vaccine is expensive and painful but rabies (untreated) itself is fatal.

Buy Travel Insurance:

  • Camp organizers strongly recommend you to buy a comprehensive reliable travel insurance coverage including everything from personal to medical or any kind of trip/travel emergency.
