View the best of wildlife at the Upper Grumeti Woodlands

With some of the best lush green acacia woodlands, the Upper Grumetic Woodlands has an uncountable collection of herbivores. The main highlight here is the Grumeti River that flows across the upper half of Serengeti before the river makes its way to the Lake Victoria. Abundance of wildlife can be viewed especially during dry season and you can be lucky to view the best wildebeest migration (northward or southward) during July-August or September-November. This verdant land is home to the emblems of this region, the giraffes as they feed on tender acacia leaves. Impressively beautiful forest line can be witnessed along the Grumeti River banks. On the other side of this forest gallery, group of hippos can be seen splashing in the dark waters. Other inhabitants that are commonly seen in abundance during a Grumeti Game Loop will be monkeys, hippos, baboons, turaco birds, primates and fish eagles.

Explore the secretive yet most fascinating spot, the Lamai Triangle

Added to the National Serengeti Park in 1965, the Lamai Triangle is an attractive but still less known place in the northern Serengeti. It is a triangle-shaped watershed area located towards the north of the Mara River where it marks its South border. This place truly serves as a heaven for wildebeests and zebras as they migrate here during the dry seasons and are served with fresh water and green red oat grasslands along with acacia trees on the rolling hills. Although rarely visited, this place can be explored by drive along off-beaten tracks all around and you can even explore it on a walking safari (for security – escorted with an armed park ranger). If you wish to view the dry season migration and would like to avoid crowd, the tranquil private space of Lamai Triangle can be a true sport for viewing herds of animals including the massive and elegant eland, topi antelopes, giraffes, elephants, buffalos, ostriches, zebras, cheetahs, lions and warthogs.

Expect the unexpected at the Wogakuria grasslands

An attractive grassy land with granite kopjes and distinctive broad-leafed trees located towards the south of the Kogatende Ranger post is the Wogakuria. This place is most known for its highest concentration of cheetahs in Serengeti. Not only that but it serves as home to many oribis (species only found in Serengeti National Park and in some areas of Tanzania). Another attractive feature of this area is the Wogakuria Kopjes where old buffalo bulls and the surefooted klipspringers’ antelopes are commonly seen. Water springs here allows many animals to live here including lions, ostriches, elands, steenboks, giraffes and elephants.

Follow the luxuriant reaches of Bologonja Springs

Another hidden spot that is idyllic for exploring abundance of animals, greenery, shades and fresh water is the Bologonja lush land. The area is in the remote reaches of Northern Serengeti where you can find flourishing uncommon antelope species; steenboks and mountain reedbucks. This leafy surrounding is home to a huge variety of birds including rollers, kingfishers and hoopoes.
